Horrorigins: Ewan Cant

Ep.13 — In this episode of the WHAT MONSTER podcast, Vinegar Syndrome's Ewan Cant talks about his introduction to horror, watching Fulci with his dad, and the soporific joy of regional slasher movies

Steven Gregor chats with Ewan Cant, a lifelong slasher fan, about his passion for restoring and preserving obscure regional American slasher movies. Ewan's career began at Arrow Video, where he worked on re-releases of horror classics like THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE 2 (1986) and HELLRAISER (1987). He now works at Vinegar Syndrome as an acquisitions specialist, focusing on deep cuts like BLOOD TRACKS (1985), ICED (1989), and TERROR AT TENKILLER (1987).

During the chat, Ewan shares his early introduction to horror through TV shows like DOCTOR WHO and movies like A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET (1984) and CHILD’S PLAY (1988). In his work at Vinegar Syndrome, where he also produces extra features, Ewan emphasises the importance of preserving these movies and the stories behind them.

Ewan also co-hosts the slasher movie podcast THE ONE BY ONE SLASH-CAST with film historian and fellow slasher guru Amanda Reyes. It’s a must-listen for slasher movie fans. You can find it on Spotify. Check it out.
